In order to break negative generational patterns, and start cycles of well being in our families, we have been looking to the field of child development. And there is so much crucial information there.  The likes of Daniel Siegel, Gabor Mate, Mona Delahooke, Becky Kennedy have transformed the field giving us a really clear idea of what we need to do.

Yet even with all this information, many of us still struggle on a daily basis.

This is because child development is only one half of the story.

While child development tells us what to do, it fails to address who we need to be

The science is clear: our children’s brains wire to our brains. And so, any happiness, success, thriving, any facet of well-being we want them to have, needs to be wired into their brains through first being wired into ours.

And so, while we still need to nurture them developmentally, we also need to rewire our own brains in real time because the science has told us that we need be who we want them to become.

We are the most important tool in the tool box.

So, the second half of the story lies in the science of well-being, known as Positive Psychology, whose greatest discovery is that happiness is not something you either have or don’t have, it is something that you do. It is a skill to be cultivated and Starting Cycles is about how to achieve self-mastery in the skill of being well in the context of parenthood with the ultimate goal of starting cycles of generational well-being in your family.

While we have “supporting children to develop well” at our core, the strongest tool we have to achieve this goal is our own development: it's never to late to begin, but it must start with you.
